New LSCM Content!
Achtung! I said, "Strider, Strider 2, the end credits Strider Strider and the Ottoman" section of the two sub-page "dialogue" sub-page / section of the dancers added Cannon. It's about time. This is critical, once all the "2000 years ago," Strider Hiryu settles to comment Strider 2 is actually the end of the canon. I do not know what it means yet, but you are. Games in the menu above "click" to check them for yourself!
Currently, subsection and other sweets are working on a couple of TidBITS. Hints that I work here one thing: This page is about care, what's on it. I mean, you do not do it now.
All you from me, get in now. Later.

GRiN's "Unfinished Masterpiece" An FF Installment?
Well, that didn't take long. Third Moon Forum member Dual has alerted me to another Strider-related tidbit: that of GRiN's "unfinished masterpiece". Gamereactor seemed to think it was a Strider game, but today Kotaku's got screenshots of a Final Fantasy-related spinoff, pretty decisively putting that speculation to rest.
Not sure GRiN would've been able to pull off the Square-Enix gameplay style, so it's probably for the best. The renders are pretty to look at, though.

Famitsu to Announce Strider HD, Strider 3, and Solve Cold Fusion!
Suzaku's brought it to my attention that Famitsu's set to announce a new Capcom game today. Someone's claiming this game is a one-two punch of Strider Hiryu HD and Strider 3. This claim is yet to be verified. It's been taken down since, so it's either leaked or hoaxed. We'll find out later today whether it's true or not. In the meantime, NeoGAF's salivating at the prospect, as are the Gametrailers.com forums and several others. Me, I'm not holding my breath. More likely it's Devil Kings 3 for the Wii, considering how the issue's table of contents has already leaked and there's no mention of Strider.
Thanks, Suzaku, for the head's-up. More on this as it develops.
UPDATE 08/18/09 09:49 CDT: Yup, Devil Kings 3. No Strider.
UPDATE 08/19/09 07:53 CDT: Hmm, Third Moon Forum member Dual has alerted me to an HG101 thread saying Capcom's going to announce a new Strider today, based on the Famitsu rumor from yesterday. Still unconfirmed as yet.

Which Version Is This?
They released MvC2 on PSN this past Friday. Guess what I did most of the weekend?
In other news, on Friday while I was relearning my Strider supers, Sega Forums poster "getoffandpush" inquired about a hitherto rarely seen Strider port, pictured at right. Note the score, the time, and the 1-up icons used for extra life markers. He claims it also has leaves for level 1 enemies (big red circle in lower left), and that these leaves kept him from completing Kazakh.
I don't know what he's talking about with the leaves. Those seem more like the final frames of an explosion animation, and in all other respects this looks like a Genesis/Megadrive port right down to the Hiryu sprite. Rob Strangman of the OPCFG concurs, opining that this is the long-lost 6 meg Gen/MD proto, back before they upgraded it to 8 meg and included the Amazon level. I'd have to play the ROM to know for sure, but several other independent opinions (from the Third Moon, Prime Central Station, and Gamengai Forums) indicate that this is a proto, at the very least.
If anyone can shed any more light on this, however (or better yet, can provide the ROM), don't hesitate to contact me.

GRiN Orphans Form New Studio?
Those who've been left without a job due to GRiN's folding have started their own venture called Outbreak Studios, according to Edge magazine online. The new studio's website had this to say:
Outbreak Studios believes in having a small number of core employees that are extremely dedicated, focused and deliver high quality. Most of our associates have worked in the game industry for more than ten years. All of them have worked together for several years.
Our mission is to develop titles for Xbox 360 (XBLA), PS3 (PlayStation Store), Games for Windows Live, PSP Go and iPhone. We also deliver online components for AAA titles, both existing or upcoming.
Well, I guess they had to do something with their lives. Good luck to them. Here's hoping they survive better than GRiN in the long term.

GRiN Files For Bankruptcy!
The day after Gamasutra broke about GRiN's financial troubles, Gamereactor reported GRiN's filing for bankruptcy. Bo and Ulf Andersson posted a final farewell to the GRiN website:
It is with a heavy heart we announce today that GRIN has been forced to close its doors. This as too many publishers have been delaying their payments, causing an unbearable cashflow situation.
After twelve years of hard work, employing hundreds of wonderfully talented men and women, it is over. It has been a great adventure and the GRIN family has experienced what few have.
Looking back at twelve years of games, titles such as Ballistics, Bandits, GRAW 1 & 2, Bionic Commando Rearmed, Wanted: Weapons of Fate, Terminator: Salvation, Bionic Commando and our unreleased masterpiece that we weren't allowed to finish; it has been a great ride.
'Unfinished masterpiece'?!?! Say what? Gamereactor goes on to speculate:
Rumours have it that Grin may have been commissioned by Capcom to do a remake of Strider and that this was one of the contracts that got cancelled. Another big Japanese publisher also had a contract with Grin that apparently also fell through.
Ah, crap. That's all I have to say right now.

MvC2 Producer Speaks Out!
Tomorrow, Capcom releases Marvel vs. Capcom 2 to PSN. As some of you might remember, there were curious goings-on with Hiryu's appearance in the MvC2 demo. He seemed to be the only cult figure among a cast of A-listers, to use the Hollywood vernacular. I recently heard from Rey Jiminez, MvC2's producer, and he had this to say about it:
I was reading some of your updates and I found the discussion on why Strider was one of the demo characters a little amusing. [F]or the demo, we wanted to support Marvel by featuring their latest ventures with their characters and for the Capcom characters, we kinda had to have Ryu, just because he's Ryu. Chun Li because the movie was coming out. Strider was picked simply because he's my favorite single Capcom character. I think I've even said in a few interviews that he's my personal number one vote for a Capcom character in MvC2 and to get a new game.
So you see, Thomas Leenders was right about pretty much everything except why Hiryu was in the game. THAT was down to a certain Capcom producer and how much he personally likes the character.
On the topic of a new Strider, Rey responded with a firm "No comment", but he did say this much:
I will say that we are aware that in any thread that asks what classic game fans would want to see remade, Strider is always near the top of that list.
After yesterday's news about the GRiN closings, this is music to my ears. A Capcom producer with a record of putting out classic Capcom titles is a huge Strider fan and is also aware that it's being asked for. If that's not good news, I don't know what is.

MvC2 PSN Release Date!
It's not all bad news today. According to Siliconera (via Capcom-Unity poster "XHunter"), it's August 13. That's Thursday. Also, all those GameStop preorder bonuses we were rumored to get? On the money after all. Capcom hooked GameStop's PS3 owners up. YEAH, BABY!
Looks like that GameStop preorder was a good thing for me after all. See you Thursday!

GRiN To Close Up Shop?
Not good. GRiN, the developers of Bionic Commando: ReArmed, Bionic Commando, Wanted, and Terminator: Salvation, seem to be in dire straits, financially. Three dud games in a row will do that to any studio. GRiN already had to close its Barcelona and Gothenburg offices earlier in the year, according to this Swedish-language report.
Anyone hoping for a Strider revival needs to sit up and take notice. The GRiN method seemed to be the best way to bring the series back. Now, it seems like it's not as financially viable as we'd thought. Let's just hope Capcom doesn't write Strider off due to GRiN's folding.

Hyper(bolic)ventilation
Apparently, the Capcom-Unity Twitter has been teasing a sequel that will "blow your mind".
In five , we’re having a meeting to discuss a new game sequel that will BLOW YOUR MIND when you find out about it… much, much later.
Meh. Getting a little tired of the hyperbole. Perhaps whatever-it-is will also cause one's balls to pucker up, as well.
