Hiryu in Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes

YEAR: 1998
SYSTEM: CPS-2
DEVELOPER: Capcom
PUBLISHER: Capcom

It all started with Street Fighter Alpha 2. Hiryu made a cameo appearance in Ken's stage, cluing Strider fans worldwide into the fact that something was up. When the next "VS" game was due to be released, our hero appeared on the roster; and surprise, surprise... he was one of the most powerful characters in the game. With his speed, naturally-chaining combos, and incredible supers, he was a fighting machine.

His old moves were revamped and given new names, he was granted new moves, and he gained three incredibly effective supers, placing him in the top tier of characters to choose from.

Additionally, Bengus (Capcom's premiere concept artist) updated his look to this much cooler form:

The storyline roughly follows the X-Men: Onslaught story arc in Marvel Comics (in much the same way that Marvel Super Heroes followed The Infinity Gauntlet arc), expanding on it to make Onslaught more of a threat than he even seemed in the comics. The Capcom heroes are pulled into the pocket universe created by Franklin Richards, along with Marvel's heroes.

I know some of you are scratching your heads at this point, but don't worry about the plot. It's just an excuse to have a massive crossover.

And no matter what, it has to be better than Heroes Reborn, right?

Anyway, you'd have to have been living under a rock to have avoided hearing about this one. Go check it out! Our man Hiryu's in it.

And he kicks ass.

Hiryu in Marvel Vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes

YEAR: 2000
SYSTEM: NAOMI
DEVELOPER: Capcom
PUBLISHER: Capcom

This is the latest (and some say last) installment of Capcom's VS. series of fighters. It too features Hiryu, but unlike the previous one, it is not based on any comic series.

In fact, the story for this game can be summed up in about three lines. Here goes.

The Earth is dying and Ruby Heart (an original character created just for this game) is trying to figure out why. She traces the blight back to an evil being known as Abyss and summons the greatest heroes to fight him. They do, and in due course discover that Abyss' power source is an orb he possesses, marking a clear objective for all the Marvel and Capcom heroes Ruby Heart has summoned.

Yeah.

I honestly think that Marvel vs. Capcom was better than this game. But who am I to judge? I suck at both of them.

But on the off-chance you came here looking for a movelist, here you go.
